The Yawk Interviews

Yawk shares an afternoon with financial and computer wizard Boo to discuss what constitutes serious "babeage", where the hotties are, kicking ass and taking names, and what makes Yawk Bar so special.

Written by Isabella Apollonia di Romero | Chiang Mai, Thailand | April 30, 2022

You would be hard-pressed to find anyone more kickass and awesome than Boo. A scholar, an expert mathematician, a financial and accounting wiz much sought after by the hedge funds of London and Wall Street, an adroit shred-master on the guitar, a steely, indomitable sportswoman who will rock your world at soccer, volleyball, pool, tennis, golf, American football, hoops - you name it, and a babe magnet who has every cutesy "dek" and waify supermodel in Thailand begging to be her arm candy; this is the world of Boo. I had the great fortune to sit down with Boo for half-shell oysters, caviar, and Grey Goose martinis on the banks of the Ping River at Deck 1. When Boo wasn't being bothered for selfies or autographs (which she always graciously provided), we managed to enjoy a splendid afternoon of chitchat.

Boo (Nong Viking) gets ready for another super night crunching numbers, tallying tabs, and enjoying super tasty beers at Yawk Bar.

Where are you from, Miss Boo?

I was born and raised in Chiang Mai. All the hottest girls are from Chiang Mai, as you well know, so of course I'm from Chiang Mai.

Why are girls in Chiang Mai consummate hotties?

It's the magic from the mountains. It creates jaw-dropping super hotties. It makes the girls up here light-skinned, cutesy-faced, and super tastilicious.

How did you get the nickname Boo?

My father named me Boo. He got his inspiration from a machine part, a part from a motorcycle engine. I'm no machinist, but it was the part that has power, like a spark, and it goes, "Kaboom! Boo-boo-kaboom!" Something like this. Like a Harley or a chopper.

Do you have a big family in Chiang Mai?

Not so big. We have 3 people including me: my older sister and my mother. My father unfortunately has passed away.

What did Boo enjoy doing as a child?

Playing sports, especially football. But really, I think I liked all sports. Volleyball, kickball, hacky-sack, whatever. Anything with a ball.

Any fighting? Any muay thai action?

Oh yeah, I used to go to a boxing gym, but I have never had a real fight with anybody, just training and practice.

But you're ready to drop an elbow on someone's face if he or she jumps behind the bar and tries to steal Yawk's money.

Oh yeah, an elbow to the face, a front kick to the face, a spinning back kick to the face, a superman punch to the face - I have about 32 different surprises for his or her face.

Where do you live now in Chiang Mai?

I grew up in Hang Dong, but now I live up near Wat Umong, behind Chiang Mai University.

Wow, that's a beautiful part of town.

Yes, I agree. It's the Laurel Canyon of Chiang Mai. We have lots of mountain magic up there, making all the university girls look super cute.

When did you join Yawk Bar?

If I recall, it was December of 2019, more or less right before the crazy Chinese virus descended upon us. I was finishing my internship and I had a friend who worked at Yawk. She was always saying how much she liked the job and how much fun she was having. I was like, that sounds awesome, could I work there? And fortunately, Pinky gave me a chance and I have been there ever since.

What internship were you doing?

It was for Maejo University. I had finished studying administration and marketing, and I had this internship at Chiang Mai News. I helped them make a website promoting food in Chiang Mai.

What are your duties now at Yawk Bar?

Some people call me the CFO, but really I'm just a humble cashier. I man the cash register. Actually, have we canceled this word already? I woman the cash register, and I help with inventory and stocking up all our goodies like beer, soju, and whiskey. So I do accounts receivable and of course I'm also the bouncer, security, and bodyguard for Yawk Bar.

What is your favorite thing about working at Yawk Bar?

My favorite thing is the team. They are such a super team of people and they make me feel very comfortable and happy. I think we are a really cohesive team and we support each other a lot.

What is your favorite memory from your time at Yawk Bar?

The anniversary of Yawk Bar was awesome. Pinky (Serena) had expanded the bar, and it was so awesome. Also Pinky's birthday was a super time. Everybody was so happy and everybody enjoyed a great time celebrating her special day.

What's the most wasted you ever got at Yawk Bar?

When I made a magic mix. [Boo laughs] I mixed beer with tequila shots. It was a big mistake. I got so wasted. Tequila is TOTALLY crazy. Actually, anytime I mix beer with some other shots or liquor I get pretty wasted.

What is your favorite food at Yawk Bar?

The spicy salads - the "yums". I love all of those, they are so good. Spicy seafood salad, or especially the one with raw shrimp, I'm crazy for it.

What makes Yawk Bar the best?

The caring and warm-hearted nature of the team is really the best. They are very supportive and they are like my family.

What is your favorite sports team?

Liverpool for life!

What is your favorite color?

Blue, like my hair now.

What is your favorite hobby?

I love rockin' out on guitar. Before it was all about sports, but now I'm really into shredding on the guitar. I like dating hot babes also, but that is more of a lifestyle, I think, than a hobby.

When will you play guitar at Yawk?

Ha! [Boo laughs] In 200 years.

If you could shop for free at any store in the world, what store would it be?

A "Black Pink" shop. Black Pink is a K-pop group I adore. So I would like to go to a Black Pink store and go crazy on all their merch. I would get all their figurines, posters, clothes - everything.

Where is the perfect place for a date?

At the sea in Koh Lan. The scenery there is so breath-taking. It's the perfect place for the perfect date.

What characteristics make the perfect partner?

Small, cute, cuddly, and with an adorable smile. Of course she should be kind and friendly also.

What is the most romantic thing you have ever done?

I booked a room, like a private room, and I had a projector set up showing video clips of us. There were balloons everywhere, teddy bear dolls everywhere. It was super cute.

Was it a success?

She melted in my arms.

What is the best advice you have received about being successful or happy in life?

The best advice I ever received was from Pinky. She said to love yourself and treasure yourself because we all have goodness within ourselves. So, don't dump on yourself because it's not true.

What is the best compliment you have ever been told?

The best compliment I ever heard was from my football coach. He said, you are the MVP! Without you, we wouldn't have won anything. I was very proud and happy to hear that.

Yawk Bar Chiang Mai
Amazing Boo showcases her award-winning, million-dollar smile that lights up Yawk Bar on a nightly basis.

As Boo concluded speaking these eloquent words, we clinked glasses and finished off our Grey Goose martinis, the sun setting lugubriously behind the majestic western mountains of Chiang Mai. However, our evening didn't end there. Boo graciously took me in her black Audi R8 sports car to Warm Up where she sat me and some friends front row to watch her shred some serious guitar. Boo ran through a series of Black Pink songs, and then got nasty on Van Halen's "Eruption", Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog", and Guns 'n Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle". The crowd was in raptures, as was I, standing on the table like everyone else with my cigarette lighter hoisted fully ablaze to the sky. Another rock 'n roll day in the rock 'n roll life of Yawk Bar's super ninja, Miss Boo. You will see Nong Boo behind the bar at Yawk keeping an eye on the books and enjoying an ice cold brewski. Be sure to say "hi" to her and buy her a drink. Why not? She's the best!
